Michelle Heidenrich Barnes, poet

Growing up, I was obsessed with the performing arts—theater, dance, music—and how they
could be used to tell stories and communicate a shared human experience.  These days, I am an artist of the written word.  I still strive to share the human experience, but on a much smaller scale. My creative challenge is to paint moments, coaxing out the natural musicality and rhythm of words as they bounce around within the sphere of my imagination. I also love to share the joy of writing poetry with students of all ages.

y poems and greeting card verse have been sold to US and UK publishers, including National Geographic, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Charlesbridge, Pomelo Books, Pearson, SCBWI, Fun For Kidz magazines, Andrews McMeel Publishing, Blue Mountain Arts, Papyrus, and Watermark Publishing.  I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from Connecticut College, a Masters of Science degree in Training and Development from Lesley University, and am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).  Please contact me if you are interested in a customized creative workshop for children or adults.

Home is gator country (Florida, by way of New York, Boston, New Mexico, and Australia), where I write and watch the squirrels dart across my back fence.   My life would not be complete without my husband, the Stargazer; my son, the Technowhiz; and my daughter, the Doodler of all Doodlers.  I am very lucky, indeed.
